Who is the Education Minister of Karnataka?

After the release of Bihar’s caste census, pressure is mounting on the Karnataka government to make its socio-economic and educational survey public. Meanwhile, Education Minister MC Sudhakar has clarified that students will be allowed to write NEET exams wearing hijab.

The state is set to revise textbooks in the days ahead, which will be a big step towards representation of diverse perspectives and historical accuracy.

1. Madhu Bangarappa

Madhu Bangarappa, son of former chief minister S Bangarappa, was born on September 4, 1966. He is a second-time MLA from the Sorab constituency and belongs to the INC. He defeated his brother Kumar Bangarappa of the BJP in the assembly elections in 2021.

He is an actor and producer, who produced Kannada feature films like Belliyappa Bangarappa (1992) which was a blockbuster hit in which his brother Kumar Bangarappa appeared and co-produced as well. He has three sisters and one of them is Sandalwood actress Geetha Shivarajkumar.

He was also the member of the legislative council before he became the education minister of Karnataka. He has proposed the establishment of schools on par with private ones which will have specialised teachers for art, music and physical education. Moreover, the schools will also have a hostel facility for girls. He has also suggested the government to provide a separate allowance for schoolchildren of scheduled castes and tribes.

2. Ashwath Narayan

BJP leader Ashwath Narayan was appointed as the education minister of Karnataka. He is a well-known figure in the party and has been involved in several social service activities. He has also participated in the freedom struggle. He is a staunch Hindu nationalist and has been criticized for hate speech against Muslim minorities.

He has vowed to undo the BJP government’s revision of school textbooks, saying that it was done with political motives. He argued that education is a state subject and the Centre cannot legislate it.

He has also called for an end to the NEP and has urged states to formulate their own education policies. He criticized the central government for arm-twisting colleges and said that a uniform curriculum was not possible in India’s diverse demographics. He warned officials not to delay clearing files involving legal issues. He also called on officers to take a proactive approach toward the students.

3. K Sriramalu

Ballari Sriramulu is an Indian politician who represents the Bellary Rural Molakalmuru constituency in the Karnataka legislative assembly. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was a minister in the coalition government led by H. D. Kumaraswamy and subsequently joined the BJP-led government after it won the election. He currently serves as the Minister of Social Welfare in the state government.

In a recent cabinet reshuffle, Yediyurappa divested Sriramulu of the Health department and gave it to Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar. The move had reportedly upset the former minister who had expressed his intention to become deputy chief minister.

However, on Tuesday, he said that he has accepted the new responsibility happily. He also argued that it was not a demotion as was being projected by the media. It was an attempt to streamline things by having one person in charge of both departments. This would help in coordination and resolving technical issues.

4. K Sudhakar

Keshavareddy Sudhakar is an Indian politician who is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly representing the Chikkaballapur constituency in the BJP. Sudhakar also leads a number of charitable activities through these institutions.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, he was one of the frontline ministers who led the fight against the virus. His efforts were praised by the WHO and experts alike.

As elections approach, he is accused of a last-minute political conspiracy by Congress leader Vinay N (Shyam). According to him, the party’s choice of Pradeep Eshwer as its candidate for Chikkaballapur is merely a formality and is part of a larger plot to facilitate Sudhakar’s victory. The former minister denied these allegations and said that in politics, “victory is not permanent and defeat is not final.” He vowed to work with all MLAs in the district for the benefit of the people.
